Skylight events are available to view in Google Earth by using a KML Network Link. Once configured to Google Earth Pro on your computer, no additional updates are required to ensure a real time feed of the most recent 24 hours of Skylight events in Google Earth.

This is particularly helpful for those who already use Google Earth to view other datasets and sources, such as vessel positions from VMS or terrestrial receivers.

Requirements 

• A valid Skylight account
• Google Earth Pro on Desktop
  • Download available here - Google Earth
  • It’s NOT advised to use Google Earth web browser

Steps to add network link:

• Download the KML Network link file here 
• Open Google Earth Pro
• Open the KML Network link file in Google Earth Pro
• Login with your Skylight credentials
  • You can reset your password here

Skylight events should now show in Google Earth!

When you close Google Earth, it will ask whether you would like to move the Skylight layer out of “Temporary Places” into “My Places.” This will ensure the events load again the next time you open Google Earth.

Tips 

Any user configured Skylight events (Entry and Speed Range Events) must be configured in Skylight interface.

Opening event detail links (after you click an event) in the Skylight web platform.

• Clicking the event detail links will open a browser tab in Google Earth
• You will need to click the “Open in Google Chrome” button in the topright

Alternative options:

• Right click “Open in Google Chrom” to copy the link and manually paste it into your browser
• PC users can force the link to open in a web browser following these instructions: Earth Point Help
• Mac users can force the link to open in a web browser by using similar settings
